What's the difference between IP66 IP67 and IP68

The IP protection grade test is mainly aimed at the rating test of the dust-proof and waterproof performance of the product. The letter IP (ingress protection) plus two digits indicates the level of equipment security protection. This system has been recognized by most European countries and drafted by IEC (International Electro technical Commission). It is announced in the IP code of ied529 (BS EN 60529:1992).

什么是异物防护等级,它是指什么?
This international rating scale uses a two-digit number to denote how well an electrical enclosure protects its contents.

The first digit indicates the range of dust resistance of the equipment, or the degree to which people are protected from hazards in a sealed environment. Represents the level to prevent the entry of solid foreign matters, and the highest level is 6.

The second digit indicates how waterproof the equipment is. Represents the level of water prevention, and the highest level is 8.

Dust proof grade:
0: no protection
1: Prevent large solid intrusion
2: Prevent the intrusion of medium-sized solids
3: Prevent small solids from entering
4: Prevent solid objects larger than 1mm from entering
5: Prevent harmful dust accumulation
6: Completely prevent dust from entering

Waterproof grade
0: no protection
1: Water drops into the enclosure have no effect
2: When the enclosure is tilted to 15 degrees, the water drops into the enclosure have no effect
3: Water or rain has no effect from the 60 degree corner to the enclosure
4: The liquid splashed on the enclosure from any direction has no harmful effect
5: Rinse with water without any harm
6: It can be used in the cabin environment
7: It can withstand immersion in a short time (1m)
8: Immerse in water for a long time under a certain pressure

You’ll find IP ratings on all kinds of enclosures, but they’re especially important for enclosures that protect sensitive electrical and electronic equipment in harsh environments.

What is the difference between IP66 and IP67?

There’s one major and obvious difference between IP66 and IP67 enclosures: resistance to submersion. If your enclosure application requires submersion resistance, IP67 is the better IP waterproof rating for your needs.

Should your enclosure require even greater submersion resistance for prolonged periods, you might even consider upgrading to an IP68 enclosure rating. IP68 enclosures are rated to protect against greater submersion depths and longer submersion periods, and many IP67 enclosures also carry an IP68 rating

However, an IP66 outdoor enclosure will still provide robust protection for most electrical devices, indoor or outdoor. If your application requires enclosures highly water resistant but doesn’t involve submersion, IP66 enclosures are an excellent choice

What is the difference between IP67 and IP68?

1. Different concepts
IP67 and IP68 represent different concepts. IP6X represents the dust-proof level. However, the mantissa IPX7 and IPX8, one represent seven levels of waterproof and one represents eight levels of waterproof.

2. Different grades
IP67 has a lower grade than IP68, The test conditions of IP68 are more cruel than those of IP67. IP68 represents the highest protection level test.

3. Different test environment
The test level is different, and also different in the test environment. IP67 is immersed in half meter deep water for half an hour. The test condition of IP68 must be higher than that of IP67

All IP ratings on our enclosures are independently tested and certified through UL, the gold standard organization for materials testing.
